When does health insurance coverage begin?

Coverage typically begins on the first day of the month following the wait period established by your employer. Please refer to your company's onboarding packet.

Can I add my spouse or dependents to my plan?

Yes, you can add eligible dependents during your initial enrollment period or during open enrollment.

What happens if I decline health insurance?

If you decline coverage, you will need to wait until the next open enrollment period or a qualifying life event to enroll.

Enrollment & Changes

When can I make changes to my benefits?

Changes can be made during open enrollment or if you experience a qualifying life event (e.g., marriage, birth of a child, loss of other coverage).

What qualifies as a life event?

Examples include marriage, divorce, birth/adoption, death of a dependent, or loss/gain of other health coverage.

When do employer contributions become vested?

Vesting schedules vary by plan. Typically, employer contributions vest gradually over a number of years.

Exiting the Company

What happens to my benefits if I leave the company?

Your benefits will end on your last day of employment unless otherwise stated. You may be eligible to continue health insurance through COBRA.

Can I roll over my 401(k) if I leave?

Yes, you can roll it over into another qualified retirement plan or IRA.

COBRA Continuation Coverage

How long can employees stay on COBRA?

Employees and their qualified dependents can typically continue COBRA coverage for the following durations:

  • 18 months: For job loss (other than gross misconduct) or reduction in work hours.
  • 29 months: If a qualified beneficiary is determined to be disabled by the Social Security Administration within the first 60 days of COBRA coverage.
  • 36 months: For other qualifying events such as divorce, legal separation, death of the employee, Medicare eligibility, or a dependent child losing dependent status under the plan.
